Slip Resistant Decking

Non Slip Decking – Resolving your decking health and safety issues

Nonslip decking or slip resistant timber decking as it is referred to by the trade, is increasingly popular in both domestic and commercial markets. Grooved timber decking can be structurally strong, hard wearing, and attractive to the eye. It is available in a range of materials, lengths and profiles. However rain, frost, fallen leaves etc can quickly turn an otherwise safe walking route, into a treacherous surface, posing a serious health and safety issue. This issue can easily be resolved by adding specially formulated resin bonded aggregate inserts into the grooves of the decking. See our technical data for more information.

2 Simple steps to choosing the right decking

Choosing the right non slip decking can be a real headache but at GripDeck, we like to keep things simple. We ask 2 simple questions to help you find the right non slip solution. Do you prefer …?

Hardwood decking will be much more expensive than a softwood alternative. Hardwood decking is often used close to water or in areas of extremely high footfall. Softwood is the source of about 80% of the world’s production of timber. Softwoods are not necessarily softer than hardwoods e.g. balsa wood is actually a hardwood but the hardest hardwoods are certainly much harder than any softwood.

Some people prefer the look of smooth profiled decking, with 2 anti slip inserts. Smooth decking has the same anti slip value and is easier to clean, as there are no grooves for dirt and rubbish to collect in. The channels in grooved decking can disperse water faster, which can help make it safer after a heavy down pour.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average turn around time?
If its a stock item, we can usually deliver within 48 hours, subject to credit clearance. Otherwise we have an average turnaround time of around 1-2 weeks. Turnaround time will vary depending on the nature of your order and the scheduled workload in our manufacturing plant.

Do you fill all of the decking grooves with anti slip?
We would normally recommend using only 2 or 3 strips of GripDeck anti slip on standard 5 or 7 groove decking. We can fill every groove with anti slip, but this will cost a lot more and will add very little to the non slip quality of your decking.

My decking is not standard, can you still help?
Yes of course … If the design of your decking is bespoke e.g curved, we can manufacture bespoke anti slip decking to your requirements. For non standard profiles, we can rout out the grooves before applying our anti slip. Bespoke work will cost more and can take more time, but we are always happy to help, so do give us a call to discuss.

Can I send you my decking to be GripDecked?
Yes, many customers do … We can order the decking for you or take in decking purchased by yourself and delivered to us. Please see of our Decking Guidelines before ordering and arranging your own decking to be delivered in to us.  If your decking is damp or has been pre-treated, it could delay your order.

I already have my decking installed, can you help?
Yes, but you will need our RetroGrip product … RetroGrip is ideal for pre-fitted decking. Click here to read more about RetroGrip anti slip inserts.

Where can you supply your decking?
We can supply our anti slip decking to anywhere in the UK and Europe. You can deal with us direct or if you prefer, contact your local timber merchant and ask for GripDeck. For anything further afield, simply get in touch. We also sell many of our Anti Slip Stadia Strips and RetroGrip products to overseas customers, as they are lightweight and easy to ship.
